Causes & Triggers Of Lichen Planus:

Lichen planus is found to be an immunologically mediated disease, where the immune system mistakenly attacks cells of the skin or mucous membranes. The exact cause or mechanism of lichen planus is not very clearly understood, but some triggers are clinically found to be responsible for lichen planus:

  1. Medicines: Certain medicine like Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), medications for heart disease, high blood pressure, gout, arthritis, and other such medications can trigger the symptoms of lichen planus.
  2. Chemicals: Coming in the contact with certain specific chemicals (such as paraphenylenediamine) and drugs (such as Quinacrine, Arsenic compounds, certain metals like Bismuth, Gold), the exposure to light during the process of photography development, and similar exposure to harmful chemicals can trigger lichen planus.
  3. Certain genetic factors: It is observed that if there is some autoimmune disease, such as Lichen Planus, eczema, cancer, psoriasis, etc., in the family then it’s suggestive of a genetic link.
  4. Stress: Intense and long-standing emotional stress, such as traumatic childhood, shock, anxiety, sadness, humiliation, disappointment, failure, and other stressful events, often initiates the symptoms of lichen planus. Intense stress and anxiety are likely to trigger some immunological processes, which result in the development of the symptoms lichen planus.

Lichen planus can be diagnosed clinically by examination of the lesions.  In case of doubt, to confirm the diagnosis, a biopsy would help.

What Homeopathy Offers – The Homeopathic way of treatment:

The expressions and symptoms of lichen planus appear on skin, mouth, genitals, nails, or scalp, but the root cause of the disease is altered an immune system that is governed by some genetic factors.

Most of the times in conventional mode, the treatment of lichen planus is done superficially, by applying cortisone or similar such immunosuppressive medicine, so the disease gets better superficially. However, re-surfacing of the eruptions occurs as soon as the effect of the medicine is over. Relapse of lichen planus occurring after some weeks or months after stopping cortisone will be even more resistant (more difficult to treat).

It means that the effective treatment for lichen planus needs to be focused on rectifying or enhancing the affected individual’s immune system. If this is done, the disease would be treated for a long time.  Lichen planus is a chronic disease, which will need a long and well-planned treatment. Homeopathic treatment for lichen planus is highly effective and it has been scientifically documented. The homeopathic way of treatment for lichen planus corrects the altered immune system as well as it influences the genetic tendencies. In this way, lichen planus can be treated with homeopathy to achieve remission for a longer period than usual in more effective, harmless, and in a safer manner than usual.
